Artist Spotlight: Psychedelic Surrealism

By Ariela Ross posted in Web Design Inspiration on 01-09-2009

“Design can be art. Design can be aesthetics. Design is so simple, that’s why it is so complicated.” – Paul Rand.

Being a self-proclaimed design fanatic isn’t easy. It’s difficult to find what really inspires you, being that there are many artists out there with nice work. Somehow, I was able to narrow-down my favorites to share it with those like me and offer inspiration. Each artist is unique, with their own style portraying individuality and personal flare.

We’ll be continuing this series with Myztico, an artist of psychedelic surrealism. The artist quotes William Blake, “To see a world in a Grain of Sand, and a Heaven in a wild flower, hold Infinity in the palm of your hand, and Eternity in an hour.” That statement captures the essence of Myztico’s art. While the artwork does speak for itself, you must look deeper, closer, and beyond. Escape the box and see a world that both creates it and stems from it at the same time. Take a look and let the art move you. This is only a very limited selection, and the full selection is available at Myztico’s website.

Myztico’s surrealist designs have a strong and apparent Aztec and other Native North American tribal influence mixed with modern punk subculture and some political undertones. It brings a new vision of spirituality and culture for those ready to look beyond the box and out of the bubble for meaning.

I think this is amazing collection of Toyota cars advertisements. Toyota is the automaker’s largest ever in the United States, and comes at a time when Toyota, the maker of Prius hybrids and Lexus luxury cars, is trying to reverse losses caused by a global slump and strengthening yen.

Thank you for posting these! Awesome. Also, do you happen to know the html code to have the flash picture overlay, like, when you click the picture at regular size in the post, everything goes dark, and the picture shows up in full size overlaid on top of the screen (like these themes use). I'm a newbie, so any help would be much appreciated! :)
