Without anyone having to mention it in the comment section below, I know many of you passionately hate HDR. You believe in “purist” photography, a true representation of the scene … and if it looks ‘too overdone,’ you’ll be the first ones to call it fake. But (yes, here we are with “but”), HDR brings out depth and color in a way no other type of photography can. It is almost three-dimensional in feel, sucking you into the scene or making you feel like you could just reach out and touch the captured subject.
One of my absolute favorite photographers that I would love to share with you is Ville Miettinen of Finland, also known by the name of “wili hybrid.” As a self-proclaimed “serial entrepreneur and investor, one may, at first thought, expect this man to be void of any definitive sense of creativity. However, an entrepreneurial spirit must not only be nurtured by, but requires, a flair for artistry and adventure. This comes through in wili hybrid’s photography, much of which is HDR and, by some standards, may be considered overdone … but I love it anyway, and I’m sure with an open pair of eyes and mind, you will, too.
These shots are all high-dynamic range (HDR) shots. By combining multiple exposure captures from one scene, they create a stunning and entrancing photograph. They can be found in their source on wili hybrid’s HDR photo set on Flickr.
Check out Mr. Miettinen’s other photos on his Flickr photostream, or order prints at the Photography Art Store. Also, connect with him on Twitter @wili. Please keep in mind that the photographs below do fall under various copyrights, of which you can learn more here.
