Original and Effective Drug Product Design

Creativity has no limit. Creativity in design has no limit neither. So what could be wrong in innovative pharmaceutical products’ packaging? If we need a drug, it usually means we are not feeling well or have some other issue to fix, and sometimes the idea of taking a disgusting or even painful medication make us feel even worse.

That’s why so many scientist work in ease some drugs, make them tasteful or at least sympathetic. Why not turning their packaging to something friendly? Why do they always need to look so serious and generic?

Here are some creative drugs packaging that show you the product from a new perspective.

The drug is used to induce medical abortion. Its packaging designer, Sergii Llin, said:

“The goal was to develop packaging that will be noticeable on the pharmacy shelf, self-illustrative, and have a bit of social message, kind of ‘Think before you do’.

The pill design is used to corroborate the social aspect of the packaging, and have some kind of fun, just for fun.”

ClearRX

ClearRX was created by School of Visual Arts in New York City student Deborah Adler as a thesis project and adopted by Target Corporation (with refinements by industrial designer Klaus Rosburg) for use in their in-store pharmacies.

This packaging system turns the traditional amber-colored cylinder on its head.

An overall priority is given to make it distinguishable, so it includes colored rings. Each member of the family can use a different color to avoid mix-ups.

The bottles are also flattened out, so patients can read labels without rotating the package. On the back label, they can also write down crucial data such as drug and dosage

This package was illustrated by cartoonist Lloyd Dangle. It may not be a fine design, but contracting famous Dangle to illustrate the package was certainly a clever marketing step.

Shellpak

shell

Shellpak’s most innovative feature is its boxes’ built-in button. This button is both children safe and senior friendly.

The packages are thin and designed especially to contain fragile pills.

The packages are standard but easy-to-customize, so extended content labels provide more room for bold graphics as well as product and health literacy information.
