Eight countries celebrate their freedom during the month of October. Join us as we pay a little tribute by recognizing these global Independence Days and providing a visual element of how artists interpret what represents the country.
An independence day is “a civil holiday for the celebration of the anniversary of the beginnings of national independence.” [source: merriam-webster] Not every nation has an official independence day, but instead observes another holiday nationally that serves as a day focused around patriotism and unity. Some countries’ dates of independence (or even status of being a sovereign nation) are still contested. In this post, we will go with what is officially accepted as so.
For each nation, you will find the date of its independence day aside the name. The top image (under the country’s name) is the current official flag. Beneath them are graphics that designers felt bring out the essence of their people.
