Android is a mobile operating system that is based off of Linux. Cellphones running the Android platform are beginning to increase in popularity in the United States, with the trend begun by HTC & T-mobile’s G-1. Motorola, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, and other mobile phone makers also have an Android system. It is arguably one of the best mobile platforms, as it is open-source and has popular Linux-type features.
While Linux may have gone for the cute, cuddly penguin Tux, Google (the original developers of the Android OS) chose to incorporate this friendly green ‘droid into their family. Many lovers of Android have created some great remixes of the logo and graphics featuring Android. One woman even went as far as getting a tattoo of the little green dude (see below).
